Man wanted in Tokyo for fraud nabbed at Osaka pachinko parlor

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a man wanted for allegedly defrauding a second man met online out of 2 million yen in cash.

Police arrested 28-year-old Shuhei Okawa in Osaka Prefecture last week, reports TBS News (Apr. 19).

Okawa is suspected of luring a man in his 20s, whom he met on a dating app, to a rental space in the capital last August.

He allegedly lied to the man, claiming that his next client had canceled due to the man’s actions. He then defrauded him of 2 million yen in cash, a necklace and other items worth approximately 1.7 million yen under the guise of compensation.

Okawa had been wanted by Tokyo police since February. On April 16, he was found and arrested at a pachinko parlor in Osaka. “I will consider speaking after consulting a lawyer,” the suspect told police.

Police are investigating whether Okawa had repeatedly committed the same crime.
