TOKYO (TR) — Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 50-year-old serial burglary suspect known among detectives as “Unlocked Hiroshi” over the theft of more than 1 million yen from an apartment in Kita Ward.
Hiroshi Oshima, unemployed and of no fixed address, was arrested by police on suspicion of trespassing and theft, reports the Sankei Shimbun.
Upon his arrest, Oshima refused to address the allegations. He said, “I have nothing to speak about.”
Detectives dubbed Oshima “Muji no Hiroshi” (Unlocked Hiroshi) due to his consistent modus operandi of exclusively targeting unbolted doors and windows.

According to investigators, Oshima allegedly broke into the residence of a man in his 50s through an unlocked sliding glass door on the afternoon of February 11. Before entering the premises, he would ring the intercom to confirm the occupant was away.
Once inside, Oshima made off with approximately 1.2 million yen in cash, 80 gift certificates, and several other items including a bag, police said.
Security camera footage analyzed by investigators led to his identification. He was eventually tracked down and apprehended while playing at a pachinko parlor in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture.
