FUKUOKA (TR) – In an effort to support the rehabilitation of members of yakuza syndicates, the Fukuoka Prefectural government has created an educational video that shows the journey from leaving an organization to reintegrating back into society, reports Kyodo News (Feb. 17).

The video by the Fukuoka Prefectural Center for Removal of Criminal Organizations has begun distribution on social networking sites such as YouTube.

A shortened version will also be aired in approximately 130 pachinko parlors across the prefecture in March. Similar videos have been produced in the past. The new video consists of two parts.

One of them is about leaving a criminal syndicate. In it, a male gang member who is on the run from the police recalls his days as a high school student and resolves to “start over.”

The second segment is about working a normal job. A man who has broken away from his yakuza gang expresses joy in his ability to buy toys for his children with the money he earns from working.

A representative of the center urges, “We hope that the video will inspire people to take the first step of consulting the center or the prefectural police.”
