Ex-Hokkaido care worker arrested for secretly filming elderly woman

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police on August 18 arrested a 66-year-old man for allegedly secretly filming an elderly woman at a Sapporo City nursing care facility where he previously worked last year, reports Hokkaido News UHB (Aug. 19).

The suspect, a resident of Chuo Ward, is accused of using his smartphone to take tosatsu (voyeur) footage of a woman in her 80s whose skin was exposed at the facility on the afternoon of September 5.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Law Banning the Taking of Sexually Explicit Photographs., the man admitted to the allegations, telling investigators, “There is no mistake that I did it.”

The arrest follows a prior incident. On August 6, the man was taken into custody on suspicion of property damage after he allegedly pressed his lower body against a water bottle belonging to a female acquaintance in her 60s at the same Chuo Ward facility, rendering the item unusable.

During their investigation, police confiscated the man’s smartphone. A search of the device uncovered bizarre video footage of the suspect rubbing his genitals against the water bottle, as well as the secretly recorded images of the partially clothed octogenarian.

Authorities believe the suspect exploited his position as a care worker to carry out the acts. Police are continuing to investigate his motives and are looking into the possibility of additional crimes.
