Female nail artist fatally stabbed in Mito had reported relationship problems to police

IBARAKI (TR) – In the murder of a female nail artist at her apartment in Mito City, it has been revealed that the woman had previously consulted the police about interpersonal troubles, reports TBS News (Jan. 4).

On December 31, Haruka Komatsumoto, 31, was stabbed in the neck with a knife and hit on the head with a blunt object in an apartment in Mito.

Subsequent interviews with police have revealed that Komatsumoto had consulted them three times between 2015 and 2017 about interpersonal troubles.

The details of those troubles have not been made clear. After receiving Komatsumoto’s consultation, the police stated, “We took the necessary action at the time and the matter has now been resolved.”

Police believe that this trouble may be related to the current incident and are investigating the matter further.

“I’m home now”

Around 7:15 p.m. on December 31, Komatsumoto’s husband, 27, returned home and called emergency services after finding her collapsed and bleeding at the entrance of the apartment.

The couple lived alone. The front door was unlocked at the time of the discovery. At around 4:50 p.m. that same day, Komatsumoto called her husband to say, “I’m home now.”

According to police, the body had a single stab wound to the neck, a wound to the head that appeared to have been caused by force and several dozen bruises on both arms that appeared to have been caused by an attempt to defend against an attack.

Komatsumoto was shoeless and wearing loungewear. There was a large amount of blood near the entrance.

The apartment is located in a residential area near the Mito Interchange on the Joban Expressway.
