TOKYO (TR) – A male worker was crushed to death by an elevator at a cardboard factory in Higashimurayama City, police said on Sunday.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police said Mamoru Tomita, 51, was carrying out inspection work under the elevator some two meters above when it fell and killed him at around 9:40 a.m., TBS News reports.

Tomita’s death was confirmed shortly after he was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state, police said.

Workers at the factory use the elevator to transport cardboard produced on the first floor to the second floor, police said.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
