CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police investigating a fire that burned down a home in Mobara City have found the corpse of a man and a woman inside, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 5).
Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire broke out at the home. The blaze subsequently burned the two-story wooden house to the ground.
Investigators examining the charred remains thereafter found the body of a woman with what appeared to be a knife stuck in her throat.
When they again investigated the scene the following day, they found the body of a man on the second floor.
The body of the man had no visible external injuries, police said.
Two people lived in the house, a woman, aged in her 80s, and her son, aged in his 60s. Since police have been unable to reach them, the bodies are likely those of the residents.
Police are working to identify the bodies while also investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
