OSAKA (TR) – Police in Ibaraki City have launched an investigation after a cleaner discovered a partially skeletonized body hidden inside the closet of an apartment on Tuesday morning, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 23).
At around 8:25 a.m., a man hired to clean a first-floor room in a two-story apartment complex in the Kasuga area called emergency services.
“I opened the closet and human bones came out,” the man told police.
Officers rushed to the scene and confirmed the presence of a corpse, noting that the head was completely skeletonized. According to police, the age and gender of the deceased remain unknown. There were no obvious signs of external trauma on the body, and the clothing had severely deteriorated.
Adding to the mystery, the front door of the apartment was locked at the time of the discovery. Investigators revealed that the registered tenant of the unit is already deceased, leading police to believe the remains belong to a different, currently unidentified individual.
Police are now working to identify the body and are investigating the incident as a case of corpse abandonment.
The discovery took place in a residential neighborhood approximately 400 meters north of JR Ibaraki Station.
