OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a man in his 20s after he entered a unit in a public housing complex in Osaka City and “found an elderly man dead” inside.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to killing the elderly man, reports TV Asahi (Jan. 20).
At just after 1:10 p.m. on Monday, the unnamed suspect called police from Naniwa Ward. He said, “I entered someone else’s residence and found an elderly man dead.”
Officers arriving at the scene found the elderly man lying face-up. He had suffered injuries to his face.
The intruder said he didn’t know the apartment’s occupant, who is aged in his 80s. He was arrested on the spot for trespassing.
The results of an autopsy revealed that the cause of death was asphyxiation, police said.
The suspect later said, “I was being chased. I went into the unit and found him, so I hit him. I killed him.”
Marks of strangulation were found on the victim’s neck.
