OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have revealed that numerous bottles containing what appear to be human organs were left abandoned on the grounds of a market Osaka City earlier this year, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 19).
On the morning of September 18, a cleaning worker at the Osaka Central Wholesale Market, located in Fukushima Ward, found numerous bottles in cardboard boxes near a garbage dump.
Each bottle contained what appeared to be human organs. Another market employee reported the incident to the prefectural police.
Based on the shape and characteristics of the bottles, police believe they may have been medical waste stored at a hospital or other institution. Police are investigating the possibility that someone may have illegally dumped them.
Organs and other materials that may contain infectious disease pathogens must be entrusted to specialist companies for disposal. Police are investigating the case on suspicion of a violation of the Waste Disposal Act.
According to the city, the market handles vegetables and seafood. Based on the total floor area of the facility, it is the largest market in western Japan.
