NAGOYA (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly molesting a female player of Pokemon Go at a popular gathering spot for enthusiasts of the smartphone game in Nagoya, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 8).

At 4:30 a.m. on Monday, the man, a part-time employee living in Nishi Ward, allegedly reached under the skirt of woman, 29, and rubbed her thighs as she sat at the edge of a flower bed and played the popular game at Tsuruma Park in Showa Ward.

Since the launch of Pokemon Go last month, the park has become a popular location. When viewed from above, a water fountain in the middle of the park looks like a Poke ball, which is a sphere that players use to capture monster characters. As a result, Twitter users and others have been referring to it as “sacred ground.”

At the time of the incident, the suspect was seated next to the victim. After the alleged crime was committed, the man attempted to flee the scene but the victim and a female acquaintance apprehended him.
