Young woman found dead in Fukuoka river with head wound

FUKUOKA (TR) – Police in Fukuoka City have launched an investigation after a young woman was found dead in a river early on Thursday with a severe laceration to her head, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 19).

At approximately 5:45 a.m., an eyewitness contacted emergency services to report what appeared to be a person floating in the Naka River in the city’s downtown Tenjin district.

Police and fire department rescue workers rushed to the scene to find the woman floating face-down in the water. She was pulled from the river but pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is believed to be a young adult. She was found barefoot, wearing only a T-shirt and shorts. According to police, she sustained a split wound on her forehead, indicating she may have struck her head against a hard object before entering the water.

Investigators are currently rushing to identify the victim while probing the circumstances of her death as either a fatal accident or a potential crime involving foul play.
