Trio robs elderly man in Chiba

CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police are hunting for three men who robbed the home of an elderly man in Kimitsu City early Monday, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 2).

At around 2:30 a.m., the 78-year-old male occupant living alone was awaked by noises outside. The three men then broke into the residence through the back door.

The men tied the occupant’s hands behind his back with tape and pressed something resembling a stun gun against his face.

“We won’t kill you,” one of them said. “Where’s the money?”

The thieves searched the room for a while. They later found a safe containing approximately 2 million yen in cash. They stole it before fleeing.

The elderly man was not injured, police said.

The thieves are believed to be in their 30s or 40s. They were all reportedly wearing black work-like jackets and ski masks.

The incident occurred in a rural area of the city. Police are currently investigating the whereabouts of the three men on suspicion of robbery.
