Soapland bathhouses in Kawasaki accused of prostitution

KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested the manager of a chain of adult entertainment establishments in Kawasaki City and other areas for allegedly providing locations for prostitution while knowing that such activities would take place, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Dec. 2).

On November 17, Ken Kunimoto, 53, allegedly conspired with employees at two soapland bathhouses in Kawasaki Ward, Kawasaki, to provide private rooms while knowing that female employees would engage in prostitution with customers.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Anti-Prostitution Law on Tuesday, Kunimoto denied the charges. He said, “It has nothing to do with me.”

According to police, Kunimoto, who lives in the Roppongi entertainment quarter of Tokyo, is believed to be the de facto manager of a group that operates nine adult entertainment establishments in Kawasaki, Tokyo and Yokohama.

The group generated sales of approximately 4.1 billion yen last year. Police are investigating the possibility that some of the money was given to illegal scout groups and others.

On November 17, police searched the two aforementioned establishments and arrested the manager and three others on the same charges.

The investigation began after a tip-off from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police that Access — an anonymous, mobile adult entertainment scout group — had arranged for female employees to be employed at the group’s businesses.
