TOKYO (TR) – Police in the bustling Shibuya Ward have launched a renewed crackdown on train gropers and voyeurs, enlisting the help of a popular model to sound the alarm, reports TBS News (June 15).
On Monday, an anti-groping campaign was held at the Shibuya Mark City complex in Dogenzaka, featuring model Natsuki Abe, who was appointed as the honorary chief of the Shibuya Police Station for the day.
Abe distributed flyers to passersby to raise awareness and demonstrated how to use Digi Police, a smartphone crime-prevention app. The app allows victims of chikan (groping) to display an SOS screen to discreetly alert surrounding passengers that a crime is taking place.

Isamu Tanaka, Chief of the Shibuya Police Station, highlighted the persistent trouble plaguing the heavily trafficked Shibuya Station, noting that sexual harassment, groping, and tosatsu upskirt photography remain frequent occurrences on crowded trains and escalators.
Sending a stern warning to potential offenders, Tanaka declared that the police will “use every available means to arrest perpetrators.”
