Ryoko Yonekura not prosecuted over drug probe

TOKYO (TR) – Prosecutors on Friday announced the non-prosecution of actress Ryoko Yonekura  following an investigation on suspicion of violations of the Narcotics Control Act, reports NHK (Jan. 30).

According to sources, Yonekura, 50, was investigated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Health and Welfare Bureau’s Narcotics Control Division on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs together with a male acquaintance.

Documents summarizing the results of the investigation were sent to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors’ Office on January 9.

On Friday, the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors’ Office announced that they have decided not to indict Yonekura.

A decision for non-prosecution can be based on a number of factors, insufficient evidence, but prosecutors in this case stated that they will “withhold” their reason.

In December, Yonekura posted a comment on her agency’s website. She wrote, “It is true that investigative authorities entered my home,” and adding, “Thanks to the cooperation we have received so far, I believe we have reached a conclusion.”
