SAITAMA (TR) – A man was arrested here on Tuesday in a hit-and-run case that resulted in two injured police officers who were trying to save a wounded cat on the road.
Keisuke Maeda, 20, was arrested for allegedly hitting and injuring a 41-year-old senior officer and another officer, 21, from the Omiya Station Police before speeding away on a road in Saitama City’s Kita Ward at around 10:20 p.m. on Monday, Nikkan Sports reports (Aug. 22).
Maeda, who has been accused of negligent driving and hit-and-run, has admitted to the charges, telling police he “got scared because I ran over police officers.”
Omiya officers received an emergency call at around 9 p.m. that there was an “injured cat that can’t move on its own.”
The responding officers ended up on the road trying to secure the cat, which slipped away following the hit-and-run.
Police matched the license plate number to a car in a parking lot of a restaurant in Omiya Ward at around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Maeda, who was sitting in the car, was given a breathalyzer test which indicated he was over the legal limit.
