The Saitama District Court (

SAITAMA (TR) – A former police sergeant was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday for kidnapping and raping a high school girl last year.

Presiding judge Naoto Sasaki handed down a 10-year prison sentence to former Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Takeshi Onodera, 35, of the regional Senju Station division, for kidnapping and raping a high school girl in a hotel on May 30, 2015, in Fujimi City, Saitama Prefecture, the Mainichi Shimbun reports (June 10).

“The emotional distress suffered by the high school student is significant,” judge Sasaki said. “Criminal liability is further strengthened by the fact that a cutter knife and duct tape was prepared to carry out the crime.”

The Saitama Shimbun reported that the defense tried to emphasize Onodera didn’t plan the crime in detail, but the argument was dismissed on the grounds that the suspect “carried out a premeditated crime because he acted in accordance with his notes.”

Prosecutors were seeking a prison term of 12 years.

“If you resist, I’ll kill you”

According to the ruling, Onodera stopped the victim on a street in Fujimi City on May 30, 2015.

“You’re a victim of voyeurism,” Onodera told the high school girl. “I’m involved in anti-voyeurism work, and your personal details will be leaked unless you cooperate.”

Onodera forced the suspect into a hotel in the city and told her, “If you resist, I’ll kill you,” before raping her and inflicting injuries that took a week to recover from.
