GUNMA (TR) – A gangster died in police custody on Wednesday after seven officers tried to restrain him during a possibly drug-fueled rampage that included him biting two of them, Fuji News Network reports (October 20).
Police responded to an emergency call that there was a “fight at a mobile phone company” at around 7:30 p.m. in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, and found Shingo Omi, 33, a member of designated gang Matsuba-Kai, going on a rampage.
Seven officers tried to restrain Omi when he bit two of them, resulting in his arrest, police said.
Omi subsequently lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital, where his death was later confirmed.
Omi’s urine tested positive for kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs, police said.
