The grim incident came to light after a passerby spotted the octogenarian wandering through the area alone and escorted her to local authorities.

At the police station, Chang turned herself in, telling officers, “I strangled my disabled son to death.”

Investigators confirmed that Kim suffered from severe intellectual disabilities and had been living with his mother in neighboring Nagano Prefecture. An autopsy determined that the victim died of suffocation.

Police are currently interrogating Chang on suspicion of murder to determine the detailed motive behind the fatal act.
