Man suspected of wielding knife in rape of woman in Saitama

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 28-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of a woman in her residence in Asaka City earlier this month, reports TV Tama (Nov. 17).

In the early morning hours of November 8, Riku Takahara, an office worker, is suspected of breaking into the apartment and threatening the woman, aged in her 20s, with what appeared to be a kitchen knife.

“Do you know what I’m going to do?” he asked her before sexually assaulting her.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of trespassing and sexual intercourse without consent, Takahara, who lives in Fujimino City, denied the charges. He said, “I have no recollection of this.”

Based on security camera footage, Takahara, who was not acquainted with the woman, loitered around the apartment for several hours prior to the incident. He stayed in the woman’s residence for at least three hours.

The crime came to light just after 7:00 p.m. that same day, when the victim’s mother called police.

The woman said that she had locked the front door and windows before the incident. The apartment has an auto-lock system and the windows and front door were not damaged.Police are currently investigating how the suspect broke in.
