Kyoto caregiver abandoned severely disabled man to play pachinko, leaving him crawling on street

KYOTO (TR) – Local authorities have officially classified an incident as abuse after a home caregiver abandoned a severely disabled man to play pachinko, leaving the helpless victim to crawl along a public road, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 20).

According to the Kyoto Municipal Government, the incident took place in February. The male caregiver arrived at the home of a man with severe disabilities who is unable to walk unassisted. However, shortly after arriving, the caregiver hailed a taxi and left his patient behind so he could spend roughly two-and-a-half hours at a pachinko parlor.

Investigations revealed the caregiver had actually secured a seat at a specific pachinko machine prior to starting his shift.

Left entirely unattended, the disabled man managed to exit his residence. Police officers later found the victim crawling along a road near his home and took him into protective custody.

When questioned about his actions, the caregiver offered a brazen excuse.

“I hit a jackpot on the pachinko machine before my shift started,” he explained, adding, “I thought I could keep it hidden.”

Kyoto City officially certified the caregiver’s actions as an “abuse case” in April. The man has since resigned from his position at the nursing care agency.
