Dismembered corpse found floating off Yokohama park identified as missing Chinese woman

KANAGAWA (TR) – Police in Yokohama City have identified the dismembered upper half of a woman’s body found floating in the waters off a park late last year as a 45-year-old Chinese national, reports TBS News (July 8).

The victim has been identified as Yu Xiaofang, a resident of Tokyo’s Ota Ward.

In November of last year, Yu’s headless and legless torso was discovered floating in the sea adjacent to popular tourist spot Yamashita Park.

Authorities were able to confirm her identity through DNA analysis and other investigative methods after acquaintances contacted police to report that she had gone missing and was unreachable.

At the time of the gruesome discovery, police estimated that Yu had been dead for several months. Her exact cause of death remains unknown.

Believing it is highly likely that Yu was the victim of foul play, police are continuing their investigation into the incident as a case of abandonment of a corpse.
