TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a sushi chef who has admitted to attempting to kill his former boss by burning down the building that houses his shop, reports TBS News (Jan. 7).

In November of last year, Hiroshi Kondo, 46, allegedly ignited flammable liquid that he had poured onto the third and fourth floors of the building, which is located in the Kyodo area of Setagaya Ward.

The blaze was quickly extinguished by residents of the building. There were no injuries.

Kondo admits to the allegations. “I was displeased with the company president,” the suspect is quoted by police, according to Fuji News Network (Jan. 7). “I thought a big fire would kill him and his wife.”

The president of the management company for the shop lives on the fourth floor of the building. The shop is on the ground floor.

Kondo had worked at the shop for approximately 20 years. His employment ended in October.
