TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly using global positioning system (GPS) equipment to stalk a teenage girl, reports Jiji Press (April 1).
On three occasions between May and August of last year, Kunimasa Miura, a resident of Saitama Prefecture, allegedly called out to the girl, 17, on streets in Sugamo Ward after locating her through a GPS tracking device he had installed under her bicycle seat with tape.
Miura, who has been charged with violating the stalker control law, admits to the allegations, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun (April 1). “I thought she was cute, so I followed her around,” the suspect is quoted by officers from the Sugamo Police Station.
The suspect and the victim became acquainted through Twitter. The stalking started after he met her a few times to purchase concert tickets.
In March, the girl consulted with police after discovering the device attached to her seat.
