Strike out: Man accused of smuggling cocaine in baseball bats not indicted

TOKYO (TR) – Prosecutors Office have announced the non-indictment of a 40-year-old man for allegedly smuggling approximately 1.8 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside baseball bats, reports NHK (July 11).

Yoshihiro Kasai, a martial artist who has participated in the Japanese martial arts event BreakingDown, was accused of smuggling 1.8 kilograms of cocaine from the United States to Narita International Airport in July last year.

The contraband has a street value of 47 million yen.

According to police, the cocaine was inside 11 wooden bats with illustrations of Shohei Ohtani on them. Not only the bats, but seven gloves were also packed together to camouflage the contents.

Police accused Kasai of violating the Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Law last month.

On Tuesday, the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office decided not to indict the Kasai. No reason for the non-indictment was given.
