SAGA (TR) – Saga Prefectural Police have re-arrested a 37-year-old woman who allegedly telephoned her former boyfriend more than 16,000 times earlier this year, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 18).

Between April and September, Miki Eguchi allegedly placed around 16,300 phone calls to her former boyfriend, a resident of Karatsu City aged in his 30s. She also sent him 30 emails.

Eguchi, a resident of Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, has been accused of violating the Anti-Stalking Law. “I didn’t have anything in particular to say,” the suspect is quoted by the Karatsu Police Station.

The matter came to light during an investigation into a separate matter involving the suspect and victim. In late September, the suspect sent an email to an acquaintance. “He dangled marriage in front of me,” the message read, referring the victim. “He has responsibility.” She was subsequently arrested on charges of defamation.

An examination of the suspect’s smartphone during the initial investigation revealed the phone calls placed to the victim, according to TV Asahi (Oct. 18).

The couple had been in a relationship over a two-year period ending in 2007.
