OKAYAMA (TR) – Following a series of thefts of women’s underwear, Okayama Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 41-year-old postal employee who was found with hundreds of pairs at his residence in Tsuyama City, reports Nikkan Sports (May 23).
At 11:20 p.m. on May 3, Yoshimichi Sugano, a section chief at the Tsuyama Post Office, allegedly stole six undergarments belonging to a 20-year-old woman from Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture from inside a coin-operated drying machine at a laundromat.
According to the Tsuyama Police Station, the suspect, who has been charged with trespassing and theft, denies the charges, telling police that he does not recall the incident.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s home revealed 260 items of women’s underwear.
The matter came to light after the woman lodged a complaint with police on May 5.
Since March, 10 similar thefts have taken place at seven laundromats in Tsuyama.
