GUNMA (TR) – Gunma Prefectural Police have arrested Japan’s number-two wheelchair tennis player for allegedly intruding into a women’s dressing room in Takasaki City to take illicit photographs, reports the Asahi Shimbun (May 31).
On April 2 at 11:25 a.m., Yusuke Nishimura, 29, allegedly entered a women’s dressing area at a shopping mall and placed a bag furnished with a spy camera beneath a 40-centimeter gap between a stall’s door and the floor. A woman in her 30s who was changing her clothes noticed the bag and alerted police.
Nakamura, who has been charged with trespassing, admits to the allegations. “I did it to release stress,” the suspect is quoted by officers from the Takasaki Police Station.
Footage obtained from a security camera installed in the store showed Nishimura, who was not using his wheelchair at the time, sliding the bag under the door.
According to the International Tennis Federation, Nishimura is ranked 33rd in the world. The Gunma native’s best ranking was 27th in February of last year. He was not selected to represent Japan in the Paralympic Games in in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in September.
“After checking the facts of the case, we will seek a suitable punishment,” said a representative of the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association.
