AV actress Kokoro Asano says singing on stage is ‘more embarrassing than getting naked’

TOKYO (TR) – Kokoro Asano, a 23-year-old adult video (AV) actress known for her large eyes and innocent smile, has revealed that stepping up to a microphone is far more terrifying than stripping for the camera.

Despite the heavy stigma attached to the Japanese AV industry, Asano refuses to hide her origins.

The actress recently disclosed to Spa! (Apr. 27) that she filmed her debut explicit video on location in her hometown of Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture — shooting scenes a mere 10-minute walk from her family’s home.

“Expose absolutely everything”

While many actresses conceal their hometowns to avoid being outed to friends and family, Asano took the opposite route.

“If I was going to work showing my face, I wanted to challenge it in the flesh and expose absolutely everything,” Asano said. She recalled shooting scenes on the very streets she used to ride her bicycle on as a child, ultimately realizing the bizarre experience made her appreciate her hometown more.

But while baring her body came with a sense of bold liberation, finding her voice was a different story.

“Unthinkable”

Shortly after her adult video debut, her agency’s president suddenly instructed her to start performing live music. For Asano — a self-described childhood loner who used to hide her face behind long bangs and glasses — the demand triggered massive anxiety.

“I had never even sung in front of friends at karaoke,” Asano confessed. “Doing a live performance was an unthinkable act. It was more embarrassing than getting naked.”

Despite her initial panic, Asano has since built a dedicated following for her live performances, where she strictly covers nostalgic tracks from older male artists like Keisuke Kuwata, Noriyuki Makihara, and the late rock icon Yutaka Ozaki.

Her fixation on Ozaki, who died tragically in 1992 before Asano was even born, borders on the obsessive. After seeing a YouTube video of him writhing in sweat on stage, she developed a fierce, parasocial romance with the deceased rocker.

“I fell completely in love with him. I wanted to marry him,” Asano admitted, revealing she even tracked down and visited the apartment building where Ozaki used to live.

Dark, introverted youth

Beyond her adult films and music, Asano is now drawing attention as a writer. Operating a popular blog on the platform note, she publishes deeply melancholic, psychological essays reflecting on her dark, introverted youth in Sendai.

Rejecting the pressure to write upbeat celebrity posts, Asano says she deliberately focuses on the pain of her past to connect with her readers.

“It is difficult to capture joy in writing. If you write about happiness, it can come across as overbearing, which I hate,” Asano said. “I was saved by heartbreaking writing myself. So I send my work out there to let people know they aren’t alone in their sadness and pain.”

Looking ahead, the actress plans to expand her repertoire into acoustic guitar performances, aiming to cultivate a new image as a philosophical figure within the adult entertainment industry.
