TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday arrested a former gang member for confining a man after he was unable to follow through on a request related to a loan, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 7).
Officers took Takanori Sakahara, 59, a former member of the Sumiyoshi-kai organized crime group, and Koichi Takahashi, 47, for allegedly confining a man for 30 minutes inside Sakahara’s residence, located in Higashimurayama City, on the afternoon of July 19 after he failed to provide the name of a person interested in taking out a high-interest loan.
The victim was also struck in the face and received minor injuries.
Sakahara has reportedly admitted to the allegations.
According to police, Sakahara operates a loan business. After the victim provided the suspects with a false name, address and phone number for a potential client he was taken to Sakahara’s residence.
