FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police on Monday announced the re-arrest of the head of an organized crime group for participation in the gunning down of a former police officer three years ago, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (July 6).
Police accused Satoru Nomura, the head of the Kudo-kai, of organizing the attempted murder of Yasuo Hiroishi, a former detective with the prefectural police, who was shot in the left hip and thigh as he walked to work through a residential neighborhood in Kitakyushu City in April of 2012.
Police have also arrested number-two boss Fumio Tanoue and 16 other suspects in the case.
Since September of last year, Nomura has been arrested five times, including for involvement in the murder of a fishery cooperative president in Kitakyushu in 1998 and the stabbing of a nurse in Fukuoka’s Hakata Ward two years ago.
Last month, police charged Nomura and three other gang members with concealing 220 million yen in taxable income over a four-year period ending in 2013. The boss is liable for a tax bill of 90 million yen.
