TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a popular shop clerk in Shibuya Ward and an organized crime member in the confinement and robbery of an acquaintance, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 1).

At around 2:55 a.m. on October 25, Yuki Fukushima, a 24-year-old clerk at the Adidas clothing store at the Shibuya 109 mall, Masahiro Takigawa, a 22-year-old member of the Sumiyoshi-kai, and one other person abducted a 24-year-old acquaintance on a street in the Dogenzaka area.

The suspects then took him by car through Shizuoka and Saitama prefectures during which time they repeatedly beat him in the head with a metal rod. They also threatened the victim, saying “Hand over 20 million men” and “Prepare to die.”

The victim, who was also robbed of 60,000 yen in cash, suffered injuries that required three weeks to heal.

Known as “Adio” — an amalgamation of Adidas and otoko (man) — Fukushima has garnered popularity through appearances on television programs.

Takigawa denies the charges. Fukushima admits to the charges, telling police he was asked by Takigawa “to summon the victim. After that, I don’t know anything about,” he said. The third suspect has declined to comment on the matter.
