Video shows fan assault idol Haruna Kojima in Shibuya

TOKYO (TR) – A video posted on YouTube shows a foreign man hugging and pushing down idol Kojima Haruna while she was at an event in Shibuya Ward on Monday.

The incident took place following an event at Shibuya Tsutaya on Monday to promote the release of Kojima’s latest photo book titled “Maybe,” reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 31).

At around 9:00 p.m., the 42-year-old unnamed, man who is believed to be a language student from Taiwan, allegedly hugged and shoved down Kojima outside the venue.

Kojima was unharmed in the incident, police said previously. The suspect was sent to prosecutors on Wednesday.

In the clip, which was taken from a live-streaming camera, Kojima is seen holding some flowers as she walks down the crowded street in front of Shibuya Tsutaya.

After she turns left to go inside, she disappears from view momentarily only to re-emerge after being tackled by a person believed to be the suspect. She then tumbles to the ground and passersby and security guards apprehend the suspect.

Kojima is a former member of idol group AKB48. A person related to her said that they had consulted with police about a fan who was behaving aggressively back in August.

Police are now investigating whether the Taiwanese man in custody is the same fan who caused trouble in August.
