Saitama police piece together man’s naked rampage that kills one, injures 10

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police sent a 48-year-old man to prosecutors last week for allegedly breaking into a cram school in Soka City while completely naked, reports Fuji News Network (Apr. 28).

The arrest of Daisuke Nakamura was the conclusion of what investigators believe was a 90-minute rampage across the prefecture that left one person dead and about 10 people injured.

At 9:40 p.m. on April 21, Nishimura, of no known occupation, allegedly broke into the juku cram school in Saka. He also allegedly assaulted a 14-year-old middle school girl by pulling her arm and hitting a 59-year-old teacher on the head with a drinking mug.

He was sent to prosecutors two days later. “It would be bad to say anything,” Nishimura told police in declining to comment on the allegations.

Police believe that Nishimura’s rampage began at around 8:13 p.m. on April 21 in Kawaguchi City. A resident alerted police about “a suspicious tattooed man driving slowly through a residential area.”

About 20 minutes later, Nishimura is believed to have been behind the wheel of a vehicle that plowed into a convenience store in Kawaguchi City.

According to witnesses, the driver then attempted to flee, crashing into nearby cars one after the other. He then assaulted a taxi driver.

“He was naked and running around violently,” one witness said to TBS News (Apr. 25). “He dragged a child into his car, but the child seemed to have run away. He was raging and yelling, crashed into the Lawson once, and when he turned the car around, he hit three or four cars before running away.”

Carjacked by a naked man

At 8:50 p.m., a car likely driven by Nishimura rammed two motorcycles in Saitama City’s Midori Ward. A 46-year-old local office worker, Mitsunobu Yoshida, who was riding one of the motorcycles was killed and another man, 45, suffered serious injuries.

The incidents then started unfolding in rapid succession in Kawaguchi.

At around 8:55 p.m., a naked man, very likely Nishimura, crashed his vehicle into another car. He then fled the scene in the other driver’s car.

Afterward, the naked man allegedly entered a convenience store and stole several items. In another case, he carjacked a taxi carrying two passengers.

“Thought he was going to be killed”

With the two passengers still in the taxi, the man believed to be Nishimura drove on — and at a high speed.

“[The cab] was travelling at over 100 kilometers an hour on a public road,” a person from the taxi company tells Fuji News Network while reading a log from the vehicle. “If you trace the route, you’ll find it’s a road that’s closed to vehicular traffic.”

A construction worker believes Nishimura knocked over some pipes on a site.

“There were tire marks all over the place,” the worker says. “So, I think he probably knocked down our temporary fence and took off. It’s scary. There’s nowhere to escape.”

At around 9:30 p.m., he crashed again, ramming head-on into a van. The cab finally came to a halt after striking a guardrail.

“I was just thinking, ‘Run! Run!” a female passenger in the cab said. “The right rear wheel [of the cab] appears to have run over the foot of a woman. [My male companion] thought he was going to be killed.”

“It was a close call”

The man believed to be Nishimura, who was still naked, left the cab. He then threw a cinder block through the window of an apartment in Soka City.

Fuji News Network shows a footage of the smashed window. The block is next to a bed.

“It was a close call,” a person from the management company of the unit says. “He was almost asleep. If it hit him, he would have died.”

“I’ll kill you!”

At around 9:40 p.m., Nishimura arrived at the aforementioned cram school.

Security camera footage from near the scene recorded what sounds like screams, but it is hard to hear, according to the network.

When an expert was asked to analyze the audio, it was revealed that the following shouts were heard:

“Hey, shut up! Hey!”
“This is really bad”
“Run! Run!”
“Oh no, he’s running away!”
“Enough already!”
“Kill me!”
“That hurts, you idiot!”
“I’ll kill you!”

All told, police believe Nishimura was behind about 20 incidents and accidents on April. They are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the rampage.
