Man, 26, arrested over confinement of Chiba woman in Saitama

CHIBA (TR) – Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a robbery and kidnapping at a home in Ichikawa City last week, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 18).

On October 17, a 72-year-old woman living in the home returned to find the windows smashed, cash from her wallet stolen and her car gone. As well, the whereabouts of her 50-year-old daughter, who lives with her, were unknown.

According to the police, the daughter was assaulted by several perpetrators while she was sleeping, tied up with what appeared to be adhesive tape, and forced into the car.

Police later that same day rescued her at a hotel in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture. Although she was injured, her life is not in danger.

Police also arrested suspect Shu Fujii on suspicion of confinement. He was present with the daughter when she was found.

Two other people are believed to have escaped, and police are searching for them.

Fujii is also suspected of partaking in the robbery and murder of a 75-year-old man in Yokohama City earlier this month. The suspect’s fingerprints where found at the scene of that crime, police said.

In the Ichikawa case, police arrested 21-year-old Kengo Takanashi on October 18. He is suspected of being one of the perpetrators who broke into the home, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 19).

During questioning, Takanashi said things to the effect that he was involved in other crimes that have occurred in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
