Hiroshima woman, 80, accused of strangling son

HIROSHIMA (TR) – Hiroshima Prefectural Police on Monday arrested an 80-year-old woman for strangling her son who later died, reports Kyodo News (May 6).

At around 6:55 p.m., Kazuko Kiyohara surrendered at a police box in Naka Ward. “I killed my son,” she said.

About 10 minutes later, police officers rushed to a nearby riverbank and found her son, 55-year-old Tsuyoshi, lying on his back. He was unconscious upon transport to a hospital where he was later confirmed dead.

Upon her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Kiyohara admitted to the allegations, police said.

Kiyohara lived with her son in a residence in the ward located about kilomters from the crime scene. Police are now investigating whether to change the charges to murder.
