HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have arrested a 46-year-old physician on suspicion of mutilating and abandoning the corpse of his wife, whose remains he allegedly dumped into a local river, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Sep. 30).
Kenji Shimomura, a doctor residing in Nishinomiya City, is accused of using a bladed weapon to sever the head and limbs of his 41-year-old wife, Mami.
According to police, the gruesome dismemberment took place at the couple’s former residence in Amagasaki City in August of last year. The suspect then allegedly discarded her remains into the Kanzaki River.
The following month, Shimomura attempted to cover his tracks by filing a missing person report with the police. At the time, he claimed, “She left the house after an argument, and I haven’t been able to contact her.”
After a fruitless, months-long search for the missing woman yielded no clues, investigators brought Shimomura in for questioning earlier this month. The doctor eventually broke down and admitted to the allegations, telling officers, “I mutilated and abandoned my wife’s body.”
Following his confession, police conducted a search of the river and successfully recovered some of her body parts.
During interrogation, Shimomura provided chilling details of the disposal, stating, “I dismantled the bones and body parts and threw them away separately. I did it all by myself.”
Police are now investigating Shimomura’s suspected involvement in his wife’s murder.
