TOKYO (TR) – A private detective who sparked online buzz by revealing that mistresses hire him to photograph themselves entering love hotels with married men has opened up about the dark, voyeuristic reality of infidelity investigations.
Detective Ozawa, a veteran investigator who has handled over 1,100 infidelity cases, recently went viral on social media after exposing the bizarre requests he receives from single women having affairs with married men.
“The requests I often get from these women are: ‘I want to know what the wife looks like,’ ‘I want to know where she works,’ or ‘I want you to take pictures of the moment the husband and I go into a love hotel,'” Ozawa wrote.
“In a word, it’s a job where you peer into human darkness,” Ozawa told ABEMA Prime (Sep. 12), which recently documented the gritty reality of his investigations. “There’s an endless stream of requests. You might think it has nothing to do with you, but you could actually be a victim of infidelity right now and just not realize it.”
The emotional wreckage of Ozawa’s work was recently showcased in a case involving a client using the pseudonym “Inami.” Although Ozawa had already secured solid evidence of her husband’s cheating, the heartbroken wife had one final demand: she wanted to confront the mistress directly to ask, “How did you feel having this affair?”
Waited in the shadows
The circumstances of the betrayal were exceptionally cruel. According to the detective, the husband had been shamelessly carrying on the affair while Inami’s father was dying. “He was doing this even while the funeral and cremation were taking place,” Ozawa revealed.
Adding to the twisted irony, the sting operation to ambush the mistress fell on Inami’s own birthday.
During the operation, Ozawa and his team tailed the oblivious couple, who were openly flirting in public. After Inami was called to the scene, she waited in the shadows with bated breath, riding the same final train of the night as her cheating husband and his lover.
“Muddy side of humanity”
When the train arrived at the mistress’s local station, the husband finally said his goodbyes and left. As soon as the other woman was alone, Inami stepped out of hiding to face her husband’s lover head-on.
“Confronting an affair partner directly takes an incredible amount of guts,” Ozawa said, watching the tense showdown unfold. “But she had to do it to move her life forward. We were privileged to witness her resolve.”
For Ozawa, the endless supply of cheating spouses ensures he will stay in the business of shadowing Tokyo’s unfaithful.
“Working this job, you get a legal VIP seat to view people’s darkness, their desires, and the muddy side of humanity,” the veteran detective admitted. “I just can’t quit.”
