HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police in Kobe City made a gruesome discovery on Saturday afternoon, finding the dismembered remains of a man stuffed inside a freezer at an apartment in Kobe City, reports Fuji News Network (June 21).
At approximately 12:20 p.m., officers entered a third-floor apartment in the Nakayamatedori area of Chuo Ward. Near the entrance of the residence, they located a large freezer containing the mutilated body of an adult male.
The investigation was triggered after a neighbor contacted the building’s management company the previous day to report a “foul odor” emanating from the unit. The management company then alerted authorities, prompting police to unlock the door and search the premises.
No potential murder weapons have been found at the scene, police said.
The apartment building is located in what is typically a peaceful district. “There is no doubt a police car was parked here for a long time yesterday,” a local resident told reporters. “As you can see, it’s a quiet residential area. Completely quiet.”
Police have scheduled a judicial autopsy to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death. An investigation is currently underway on suspicion of the mutilation and abandonment of a corpse.
