KYOTO — Kyoto Prefectural Police have intensified their search for an 11-year-old boy who vanished over a week ago after his school bag was discovered abandoned in a mountainous area, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Apr. 1).
Yuki Adachi, a sixth-grade student at Nantan Municipal Sonobe Elementary School, disappeared on the morning of March 23. According to investigators, the boy’s father drove him from their home and dropped him off near the school at approximately 8:00 a.m.
Despite exiting the vehicle a mere 200 meters from the campus gates, Adachi never arrived for classes. Security cameras positioned at the school failed to capture any trace of the boy, and no parents or other students arriving at the same time reported seeing him.
The search took a troubling turn on Sunday when authorities located his school bag dumped in the mountains, about 3 kilometers northwest of the elementary school.
Kyoto police have released identifying details about the boy to the public. Search teams are now heavily focusing their efforts on the dense woodland surrounding the area where the bag was found, as the investigation into his mysterious disappearance continues.
