KANAGAWA (TR) – A male police sergeant from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of sexually assaulting and injuring a female colleague after a drinking party last year, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 6).
According to police, the male police sergeant, aged in his 30s, is from the Kamakura Police Station. He has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of non-consensual indecency and non-consensual sexual intercourse resulting in injury.
Last June, the sergeant is alleged to have sexually assaulted the female colleague in a private room at a manga cafe in Yokohama City. The victim suffered injuries that took two weeks to heal.
During voluntary questioning, the sergeant admitted to the charges. He said, “I was drunk and let my guard down.”
Prior to the incident, the sergeant and the woman had been drinking with several other police colleagues. After the party, the sergeant was left alone with the female colleague and headed to the manga cafe.
On Friday, the Kanagawa Prefectural Police imposed a six-month suspension on the sergeant as punishment. However, he voluntarily resigned on the same day.
The Kanagawa Prefectural Police commented, “We have taken strict disciplinary action based on the results of the investigation and findings. We will provide thorough guidance to our employees to prevent recurrence.”
