TOKYO (TR) – Prosecutors announced earlier this month announced the non-prosecution of a 22-year-old man accused of extorting a male university student for taking illicit photographs last year.
The photographer, however, was indicted in the case, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 18).
On May 16, Kotaro Himeki, of no known occupation, allegedly demanded money from the university student after he took tosatsu (voyeur) footage up the skirt of a woman on an escalator at JR Ikebukuro Station in Toshima Ward.
“You know what you did, don’t you? Your parents will be in trouble too. Show me your bank account,” the suspect told the victim in extorting 100,000 yen from him.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of blackmail, Himeki denied the allegations. He told the Shibuya Police Station, “I have no recollection of doing so.”
On February 18, the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office announced the non-indictment of Himeki. Prosecutors did not reveal the reason for the decision.
However, the photographer was summarily indicted that same day for taking illicit photos of the woman.
