IBARAKI (TR) – As a part of the investigation into the murder a female manicurist in Mito City last year, Ibaraki Prefectural Police have found what are believed to be the murder weapons near the home of the suspect in the case, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 10).
On New Year’s Eve last year in Mito City, Haruka Komatsumoto, 31, was killed by being hit on the head with a blunt object and stabbed in the neck with a knife.
Police later arrested her former boyfriend, Takumi Ouchi, on suspicion of murder. He was indicted on murder charges on Tuesday.
Interviews with investigators have revealed that a kitchen knife and hammer believed to be used in the crime were found in a river near the defendant’s home. It is believed that the defendant threw them into the river after the crime.
When questioned by police after his arrest, Ouchi denied the charges. “The [charges] are baseless and I know nothing about this.” He has remained silent since.
