Heavy snowfall in Aomori leads to discovery of woman’s corpse

AOMORI (TR) – Aomori Prefectural Police this week arrested a 64-year-old man after the discovery of the corpse likely of his mother was discovered in the home they share in Aomori City.

The discovery was made after heavy snowfall had caused an accumulation of snow in front of the home in the Tomita area, reports ATV News (Jan. 28).

On Tuesday night, police accused Keiichi Sato, of no known occupation, of abandoning a corpse. Sato said, “I left my deceased mother there.”

Prior to the discovery, a neighbor called police out of concern for the safety of the suspect’s mother. The caller said, “The snow around the house hadn’t been cleared.”

Police officers who responded to the call discovered the woman’s body lying face-up under a blanket in the living room, covered with a blanket.

There were no visible external injuries. The results of an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be heart failure, police said.

Police learned that Sato had been living with the body from around December of last year until the day of the discovery.

Police are now working to confirm that the body is in fact that of the suspect’s mother.
