TOTTORI (TR) – Police arrested a 78-year-old man after he allegedly threatened his wife with a spear during a violent domestic dispute on Thursday, reports BSS Sanin Broadcasting (Oct. 23).
At around 12:40 p.m., the unemployed resident of the town of Nichinan got into an argument with his wife, a farmer in her 70s. As the altercation escalated, the man grabbed a spear kept inside their residence and thrust it at her.
According to the Kurosaka Police Station, the woman grabbed a frying pan to use as a makeshift shield, which the suspect struck multiple times with the weapon.
A passerby who heard the commotion immediately called emergency services, reporting a “marital quarrel.” Responding officers rushed to the scene and arrested the man on the spot on suspicion of violating the Act on Punishment of Physical Violence and Others.
Upon his arrest, the suspect admitted to the allegations. “There is no mistake about what I did,” he told investigators.
Police stated that there had been no previous reports of domestic trouble between the couple. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the dispute.
