TOKYO (TR) – In the case of a Thai girl who was forced to work illegally at a massage parlor in Tokyo, her mother has been arrested by Thai police on suspicion of human trafficking, reports Fuji News Network (Dec. 24).
On Tuesday, the girl’s mother was deported to Thailand from Taiwan. She was later taken into custody by police.
The girl, who arrived in Japan in June at the age of 12, is believed to have been forced to provide sexual services to approximately 70 customers at a private massage parlor in Bunkyo Ward introduced to her by her mother.
The mother stands accused of child human trafficking and other offenses for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
Interviews with relevant parties have revealed that she has denied the charges during questioning after her arrest. “I did not bring my daughter to Japan for the purpose of prostitution,” she said.
The girl’s aunt told the network, “I really want to see her. I want to see her face and talk to her.” The girl’s grandmother said, “I want to know how this happened.”
Thai police plan to hold a press conference on Wednesday to explain the status of their investigation into the mother.
According to a Thai government official, the girl, who is being protected in Japan, is scheduled to return to Thailand over the next month.
