IBARAKI (TR) – Police arrested an elderly man on Thursday for allegedly stealing some 140 persimmons, beating up a farmer who tried to stop him and fleeing by truck, which ended up stalling down the road.

Police arrested Shinichi Sakai, 71, for allegedly plucking some 140 ripe persimmons from a tree before he beat a 40-year-old male farmer who tried to stop him in Ishioka City, TV Asahi reports (October 13).

Sakai tried to drive away in his truck, only for the vehicle to sputter and break down some five kilometers down the road where he was caught by responding officers.
