HYOGO (TR) – A man died after he was struck by a Shinkansen train on tracks near JR Himeji Station, police said on Tuesday.

A young-looking man wearing a white t-shirt was seen on security camera footage climbing down from a platform onto Shinkansen train tracks on the grounds of JR Himeji Station, where he crouched and waited until he was struck and killed by the Sakura 555 train at around 12:25 p.m. in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Nippon News Network reports (May 31).

Police failed to recover any personal belongings or identification, and are working to identify the victim.

Sanyo Shinkansen Line services were suspended for 1.5 hours between Shin-Osaka Station and Hakata Station.

The incident comes after a drunk fisherman was arrested in Hyogo Prefecture for wandering onto a Shinkansen train track on May 23.
