TOKYO (TR) – Megumi Igarashi, a so-called “vagina artist” currently under prosecution on charges of obscenity, has announced her engagement to musician Mike Scott, the founding member of the Waterboys, reports Nikkan Sports (April 22).

On Thursday, Igarashi, 44-year-old artist known for her pieces modeled on her vagina, announced the pending nuptials during a broadcast on Niconico Live. The day before, Scott, 57, used Twitter to post a photo of himself with Igarashi.

In July of 2014, Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Igarashi for allegedly for mailing links for the download of 3D-image data of her genitals to donors of an art project.

Igarashi was arrested again in December of 2014 for displaying a plaster cast of her vagina in an exhibition at an adult shop in Bunkyo Ward between October of 2013 and July of the following year.

Scott, a native of Scotland, founded the Waterboys in 1983. The band achieved notoriety over the next decade with pop singles like “Fisherman’s Blues” and “Whole of the Moon.” Last year, the band played Japan in support of the album “Modern Blues.”

Igarashi, who goes by the pseudonym Rokudenashiko (or Good For Nothing Girl), became acquainted with Scott when he heard about Igarashi’s legal problems following her second arrest.

On Twitter, Igarashi (@6d745) expressed her gratitude to law enforcement for bringing the pair together. “Since news of my arrest went worldwide, I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. I want the public prosecutor and the police to attend the wedding,” she wrote.

The verdict in the case against Igarashi, who faces a fine of 800,000 yen, is expected to be announced on May 9.
